Barcode Scanner

Works fully offline

Upload an image containing a barcode, or scan one live with your camera, and read the decoded value instantly.

Overview

This tool reads EAN-13, EAN-8, UPC-A, Code 128, Code 39, and most other common 1D barcode formats, automatically detecting which format was used — either from an image file you upload or from a live camera feed, entirely in your browser. Nothing is uploaded to a server in either mode.

How It Works

  1. Choose an image file containing a barcode and click Scan file, or click Scan with camera to use your device's camera.
  2. For the file option, the decoded value appears immediately if a barcode is found.
  3. For the camera option, point it at a barcode — scanning stops automatically once one is found.
  4. Copy the decoded value with the Copy button.

Use Cases

Checking a product's barcode value

Decode a barcode from a photo to read the number without a dedicated handheld scanner.

Verifying a barcode you just generated

Scan a barcode created with the Barcode Generator to confirm it decodes back to the expected value.

Tips

  • Good, even lighting and a barcode that fills a reasonable portion of the frame both improve scan reliability.
  • If you need to generate a barcode instead of reading one, use the Barcode Generator tool.

FAQ

No. Decoding happens entirely in your browser — the image or camera frame is analyzed locally and never leaves your device.

Only if you click "Scan with camera" — the browser's own permission prompt controls camera access, and the file-upload option needs no permission at all.

EAN-13, EAN-8, UPC-A, Code 128, Code 39, and most other common 1D barcode formats — the format is detected automatically, no need to select one.
