Screenshot Tool — Online Snipping Tool

Works fully offline Image

Capture your whole screen, one window, or a browser tab straight from this page, or paste a screenshot you already took. Then crop it, mark it up with boxes, arrows, and text, blur anything private, and copy or save the result.

Overview

This is a snipping tool that runs in your browser instead of as an installed app. It uses the browser's built-in screen-sharing picker to grab a single frame from the screen, window, or tab you choose, then stops sharing immediately. The image goes into an editor on this page, and it never leaves your device.

The editor covers what you usually need before sending a screenshot: crop to the part that matters, draw a box or arrow to point at something, add a short text label, and pixelate passwords, emails, or faces. Every step can be undone. When you're done, copy the image to the clipboard to paste into a chat or document, or download it as PNG, JPEG, or WebP.

If your browser can't capture the screen (most phones and tablets), you can still use the editor: take a screenshot with your device's own shortcut, then paste it here with Ctrl+V (Cmd+V on a Mac), drop the file onto the page, or choose it with the file picker.

Examples & Sample Data

Snipping part of a web page to share a bug

Input
Capture → choose the browser tab → crop to the error message → draw an arrow at it
Output
screenshot.png containing just the error, with an arrow, copied to the clipboard

Hiding private details before sharing

Input
Paste a screenshot of an email → Blur tool over the address and phone number
Output
The same screenshot with those areas pixelated, downloaded as PNG

How It Works

  1. Click Capture screen and pick a screen, window, or browser tab in your browser's sharing dialog. Pick a delay first if you need a few seconds to open a menu or switch windows.
  2. Or paste an existing screenshot with Ctrl+V (Cmd+V on a Mac), drop an image onto the page, or choose a file.
  3. Pick a tool: Crop, Box, Arrow, Pen, Text, or Blur. Then drag on the image. For Text, type your label in the Text field first, then click where it should go.
  4. Choose a color and line size for annotations. Undo (or Ctrl+Z) reverts the last step, and Start over goes back to the original capture.
  5. Click Copy image to put the result on your clipboard, or pick a format and click Download.

Common Use Cases

Bug reports and support tickets

Snip the exact part of the screen that shows the problem and point at it with an arrow, instead of sending a full-screen capture the reader has to search through.

Sharing without leaking private data

Blur account numbers, email addresses, or names before a screenshot goes into a public issue tracker, forum post, or team chat.

Work or school computers without a snipping app

On a locked-down or shared computer where you can't install anything, the browser can still capture and edit a screenshot.

Tips & Best Practices

  • Choosing a browser tab in the sharing dialog captures that tab's page content without the browser's toolbars or other windows.
  • Use the 3- or 5-second delay to capture menus and hover states. Start the capture, then open the menu before the countdown ends.
  • Blur works best with a generous box. Small text pixelated in a tight box can sometimes still be guessed.
  • PNG keeps text and UI edges sharp. Use JPEG or WebP only when file size matters more, such as for photos.
  • To resize the finished screenshot or shrink its file size further, download it and open it in Resize Image or Image Compressor.

Frequently Asked Questions

No. Capturing, editing, copying, and downloading all happen in your browser. The image is never sent to a server.

It does the same job, capturing and marking up part of your screen, but it runs in a web browser, so it also works on Mac, Linux, and Chromebooks, and on computers where you can't install apps. Some people search for it as a "sniping tool"; it's the same thing.

Browsers only let a web page see your screen through the screen-sharing permission, and you choose exactly what it can see. This tool takes a single frame and stops sharing straight away, so the sharing indicator disappears right after the capture.

Current desktop versions of Chrome, Edge, Firefox, Opera, and Safari. Phones and tablets generally don't allow web pages to capture the screen. There, take a screenshot with the device's own buttons and paste or open it here to edit it.

Copying images to the clipboard needs a recent browser and, in some browsers, permission. If it fails, use Download instead and attach the file.
