How to Play

  1. The goal is to move all the cards to the four foundations at the top right, building each suit up from Ace to King.
  2. In the eight columns, you can place a card on one that is one rank higher and the opposite colour, such as a red 6 on a black 7.
  3. The four free cells at the top left each hold one card temporarily. Any card can go into an empty column.
  4. Click a card (or a run of cards) and then where you want it to go. Double-click sends a card to a foundation, or else to the best free spot.
  5. You can move several cards at once if there are enough free cells and empty columns to do it one card at a time. Cards that are safe to send home move there automatically.

Tips & Strategy

  • Free cells are precious. Try not to fill all four.
  • An empty column is worth more than a free cell, because it can hold a whole run.
  • Free up the Aces and twos early. Look for them before making your first move.
  • Plan several moves ahead. Every deal is open, so there's no luck after the deal.
  • Use Undo freely to try different lines of play.

Frequently Asked Questions

Almost. Of the original 32,000 numbered Microsoft deals, only game #11982 is known to be unsolvable. The vast majority of deals in the larger range can be won too.

Each number produces the same deal as Microsoft FreeCell, so you can share a game number with a friend or look up a solution for a famous deal. Type a number and press Play # to pick one.

The number of cards you can move at once is limited to what you could move one by one: (free cells + 1) × 2 for each empty column you aren't moving into.
